As a car owner, it is important that you can recognize potential problems with your car and take it in to get looked at as soon as possible. This will help you avoid further problems that can lead to more repairs and even safety issues. This article will touch on some of the more common car issues you want to watch for so you can take your car in to be looked at by a professional mechanic at the first sign of trouble.

Signs that there may be a problem with your transmission

If your transmission starts to have problems, you may be able to feel an issue with it when you drive. If you feel your car start to make jerking or clunking motions when you increase or decrease your speed, you may have transmission problems. Also, your car may make a clunking motion and sound when you go to put it into park or into drive or reverse. It's important for you to make sure you check your transmission fluid when you are checking your motor oil. If your fluid seems fine, get your car checked by a mechanic.

Signs that your car may need to have the brakes replaced

When you step on your brakes, they should quietly slow and stop the car without a grinding feeling or a squeaky or grinding sound. If you feel a vibration under the pedal or you hear a grinding or squeaking from them, then it's time to take the car in to have the brakes checked. Again, you want to check the brake fluid along with the other fluids in your car regularly.

Signs that there might be a problem with the radiator

You should always watch the temperature gauge on your car, but even more so when the weather is warmer. If you notice that the temperature guage is starting to get higher and nearing the danger zone, then you want to do what you can to cool the motor, like running the heater with the windows down for a bit. Also, don't let your car idle, like when you are sitting in a drive through. Always make sure you keep plenty of water and antifreeze in the radiator. If you continue having issues, then you may have problems with your radiator that need to be fixed by a mechanic.

By caring correctly for your car the way it should be cared for, you can help to decrease your chances of dealing with a lot of mechanical issues. Also, make sure that you take it in to have its routine oil changes done to prevent other issues.
