Just like the human body, your car needs certain things in order to function. Similar to how your body needs lungs, a heart, a liver, kidneys, and just about everything else, your car has some things that keep it functioning as well, like the engine and transmission. Your transmission is what is responsible for shifting the gears and giving your wheels the right amount of power it needs to function.  But how can you tell if your transmission is in need of a repair? This article will take a closer look at a few signs.

It Is Leaking Fluids

Your car has a bunch of fluid that run through it in order to keep it running efficiently. For instance, your car needs oil in the engine, transmission fluid in the transmission, and brake fluid to help keep your brakes lubricated. If you notice that you have a leak under your car when you go to park it, then it may be from your transmission. Take a look at the fluid. What color is it? If it's clear, then it is usually just water. If it's a greenish hue then it may be oil. If, however, the color is a red tint then it may be transmission fluid.

It Is Wobbly When You Change Gears

Whether you have an automatic or manual transmission, it should switch from gear to gear smoothly. If, however, it feels bumpy every time you shift gears, then this is a sign that you need a transmission repair. Your transmission should switch really smoothly from gear to gear without feeling like your car is jerking. Depending on how old your transmission is, it may either need a quick tune up and need to be flushed, or it may need to be rebuilt entirely. Your transmission repair professional will be able to tell you exactly what is wrong with it and how you can fix it.

It Is Making Loud Sounds

Another thing to be mindful of is the sounds that your transmission makes. Does it make loud sounds when it switches gears? If so, then this is a sign that you need to have it repaired. Your transmission shouldn't make any sounds when it switches.

As you can see, there are a few different signs that you need to have your transmission repaired. To learn a little bit more, reach out to a transmission repair professional near you, and schedule a consultation with them.
